A piston compressor is a mechanical device that relies on the reciprocating motion of a piston to pressurize and transport gas. It is classified as a positive displacement compressor, alternatively known as a "reciprocating piston compressor" or "reciprocating compressor". The fundamental operating principle of a piston compressor is centered on the reciprocating motion of the piston within the cylinder.
During operation, as the piston moves towards one end of the cylinder, the volume of the working chamber diminishes, resulting in the compression of the gas within. Conversely, as the piston recedes, gas is drawn into the chamber. Through a series of such reciprocating cycles, the compression ratio and temperature of the gas progressively increase until reaching the predetermined pressure and temperature required for discharge.
